April 14, 2010

A beautiful day to walk to the pool! Our 4th grade buddies had lunch with us in Room 2 and were excited to go swimming. They love the opportunity to come along. All children were engaged with one another, walking, talking, and swimming together.

Some things I observed: Children helping children practice the concept of "behind" when walking in a line behind one another, children helping children stop and look both ways before crossing the street, children holding hands and laughing together. In the pool I saw one of our students use the slide repeatedly (he loves it!) with his 4th grade friends. Another student spent almost all of his time in the water and very little sitting on the edge watching - he's really feeling safer and exploring more. I saw the girls laughing and playing together. And still another student came and told me, "Mrs. Wentzel, we're playing chase!"

When we returned, we had a chance to review the social story for the farm field trip on Friday. Excitement is building!
