It has been a good Wednesday and a good week. Students are always excited to go to the pool. I see their excitment in their willingness to work and cooperate in the morning. They seem to enjoy the change of pace by eating lunch in the kitchen of our classroom. All the students walk over well. Some are tired out for the walk back. We come back for a snack - they are all usually hungry after swimming. And now they are off to gym! I would expect them to be ready for bed tonight.
Students are making personal schedules each morning and checking them to transition to each new activity. They make these schedules by matching the big classroom schedule. They also make sensory schedules. These are self-selected icons.
At calendar this week we introduced the picture emotion "angry." Students laugh at me making angry faces, but are also trying to imitate an angry face as we briefly talk about situations that make us angry (mad). We are using both words to express this.
Today we played a new game in groups of 2. Students press a button to make the arrow rotate to a letter. They matched the letter to their sentence strip , which read, "SWIM in the POOL." Younger students were working on letter recognition and matching. Olders students were practicing reading the phrase as they gathered the letters. Everyone was a willing participant taking turns to play.
