Whale of a Tale

Our story song today was Whale of a Tale. http://www.rif.org/assets/interactive/storys/whale_tale/whale_tale.swf We watched video of real whales swimming in the ocean. We made whale puppets to swim in our paper plate oceans. Together we sang Gotta keep Reading, a school wide project that everyone will sing and dance to next week. http://www.schooltube.com/video/e9bd79d29b4d0e6a2345/Gotta-Keep-Reading-Ocoee-Middle-School

Some glimpses into our morning - reading, water play, making my schedule, and playing cars.

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

It's another swimming Wednesday, the best day of the week! One student in the classroom tries to change the day of the week card at our calendar to Wednesday on other days. On Wednesdays we sing the Adams Family version of the Days of the Week song. It's catchy, and I find myself singing it at home. Of course, this is true for many of the songs that we sing in the classroom - I can't get them out of my head! A current favorite of many of the students is The Number Song, by Mr. Ray. Find it here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LADIkXyuO3s

We only have 2 more swim days - May 19 and May 26. The pool will be closed in June. We will plan our annual kite day on the first Wednesday in June and Creekside's Field day is the second Wednesday.

Did you know there are only 20 school days left in this school year? Yes, I am counting! It's hard to believe. The children are doing so well at this point - routines are well established, language and communication skills are blossoming, sight word vocabularies for reading are growing. Keep up the good work everyone!

Three Little Birds - Reading Buddies

Our story/song today was "Three Little Birds." We listened / read/sang 4 different versions of it. In our small groups we followed step by step instructions to make birds. (Some of us borrowed hats that our buddies had on.)

This morning May 5, 2010

This student rolled up in the blanket for 15 minutes and then went for a walk to the office and gym.

She played with magnet numbers.

He made several choices including the calculator, Leap Pad, keyboard, and cash register.

He read the rules about playing with toys and then played so well.

He completed morning jobs including gathering all the recycling in the building.
