Cooking today: Boowa Crackers

We followed a new recipe this afternoon. It took lots of blue food coloring to get our frosting just the right color of blue for our BOOWA CRACKERS. Some of us ate them, some of us ate the chocolate chips and skittles to make the face, but ALL of us enjoyed making the blue frosting and spreading it on the cracker!

It's a GREAT Thursday morning!

We completed our daily routine - reading, writing, spelling, number work, "What's in the bag?", calendar, and handwriting. Then we followed directions to make a snake. "SsSsSsSsSsSs!"

The room got quiet this morning as students focused on their band-aid project. We began by talking about red, itchy, "owies" (or boo-boos). We all made 8 red circles on our paper, counted out 8 band-aides to cover them up and then went to work with the band-aides.

Our story on the board looked like this today in anticipation for kite flying this afternoon.

Kite Day 2008

Kites
Wednesday May 28, 2008
A student dictated story

Josiah said, “I got dandelions hiding in the grass. And they were going away from the school up there.”

Jeff said, “We flied the kites up in the sky.”

Deon said, “I was chasing my kite.”

Riley said, “Went high, high.”

Quintin said, “Kite.”

While this story was being written Jake said,
“I want bubble gum please.”

Maddy wore her sunglasses to fly her kite.

Mrs. Kelly and some of her 7th and 8th grade students came to fly kites with us. It was a beautiful afternoon - maybe not as windy as we would have liked, but not too hot and no rain!

Stacking ladybug and bee bean bags and more "up high" and then setting a big Minnie Mouse on the top........... then tumbling down! Lots of good sensory input this afternoon. (Really, this is safe)

This student is smiling for 2 reasons: He has his favorite bee toys AND he is sitting in Mrs. Wentzel's chair behind her desk!

Kite Making

Our friends from the Ore Creek program came over this afternoon to help us make kites. They had already made their own, so they knew just how to do it. There were about 16 kids - big and small - and alot of us adults in little room 7. It was surprisingly low key, not noisy, and enjoyable! We plan to fly theses kites next Wednesday afternoon here at Creekside, again with our Ore Creek friends. Let's hope for sunshine and blue skies!

Look at how focused these students are while coloring this morning. WOW!

What was in the bag?

The clues:
1. red and black
2. twisted
3. candy
You're right! It was licorice!
Thank you, mother of the second grader who sent that in! We had fun!

At work this morning on a new sentence completion activity : "On Tuesday..........."
One student came up with "I see Mrs. Cipolla." Another checked the calendar and said "Ingamells." We figured out together how to write "I see" and cut out pictures to finish the sentence. That's thinking about what happens on Tuesday, saying the words, spelling the words, writing, cutting and gluing. These students are doing alot!

These 2 kindergarteners have been walking down the hall hand in hand. They walked in to room 7 together this morning ready to work.
This picture is from earlier this year.

Good Morning! We are excited for the coming 3 day weekend ! Well, all the adults are anyway!
Things are busy in the building this time of year with all kinds of changes in schedules and events. It can be difficult for our kids...............

I missed a couple of days taking pictures and writing updates. I'll try to get back in the swing of things today!
